On Tuesday, one person was killed while another sustained injuries following a traffic collision on I-5 in Otay Mesa.
As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle crash took place on the northbound side of the freeway near Coronado Avenue at approximately 11 AM. The early reports showed that a Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Jetta crashed into each other for reasons that are yet to be known.
On arrival, emergency crews rushed two victims to UC San Diego Medical Center where one of them was declared dead by the officials. Officials shut down a pair of northbound lanes on the Interstate which led to traffic backups in the area. As of 12:15 PM, the freeway was clear at the site of accident. No other information has been provided.
An investigation is ongoing.
