On Saturday morning, one person died following a traffic collision near Kent.
As per the initial information, the fatal single-vehicle crash took place at about 9:50 a.m. on northbound Interstate 5. The preliminary investigation showed that a 27-year-old driver was heading northbound on I-5 and tried to change lanes, just north of State Route 516. Another driver in the adjacent lane blew the horn to inform the driver not to encroach.
The driver then drifted back into their lane but failed to maintain control of the vehicle as a result of which the vehicle flipped over. The car then crashed into a tree on the right side of the interstate. The motorist was ejected from the vehicle due to the impact.
The driver and the vehicle ended up on the right shoulder around 15 feet off the roadway. The victim was the sole occupant of the car and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. The incident did not lead to any other injuries. Drivers were asked to expect delays in the area as crews worked at the scene. No additional information has been provided.
An investigation is ongoing.
