1 person dead after a fiery, single-car crash on 5 Freeway in Santa Clarita (Santa Clarita, CA)

One person was killed after a single-car crash early Sunday morning on 5 Freeway in Santa Clarita.

As per the initial information, the emergency crews actively responded to the 5 Freeway and McBean Parkway at about 1:55 a.m. Sunday on reports of a fiery accident. The early reports indicated that the maroon 2004 Toyota Avalon went down a dirt embankment along the east roadway edge of the northbound 5 Freeway, south of Valencia Boulevard, and flipped multiple times before hitting a tree.

Due to the impact, the Toyota got fully engulfed in flames that spread into the brush. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, was declared dead at the scene by the officials. The identity of the deceased will be released once the next of kin is notified. No other details are available.

An investigation is underway.
