According to Officer Anselmo Templado, a multi-vehicle crash was reported on the northbound 405 Freeway in Irvine on Saturday morning.
A man in his 50s was found lying by the roadway in the two middle northbound lanes.
According to the investigating team, a Toyota Corolla rear-ended a minivan causing his car to become disabled between the two lanes of the freeway.
The minivan was pushed to the shoulder. The driver of the Corolla attempted to push his vehicle. He was hit by a red Ford Mustang in his attempt to push his vehicle.
The passenger of the Corolla was launched several feet in the air following the crash.
According to the officials, the man was hit by several other vehicles.
The officials are investigating the cause of the fatal crash.
Identities of the other drives are awaited by the California Highway Patrol.
