Officials identified 42-year-old Jeffery Lanie who died after a motorcycle crash on 405 Freeway (Hawthorne, CA)

On Tuesday, officials identified 42-year-old Jeffery Lanie, of Redondo Beach, as the man who lost his life when a motorcycle hit the back of a vehicle Sunday on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Hawthorne.

As per the initial information, the fatal motorcycle crash took place a little before 11 a.m. Sunday on the northbound freeway, west of El Segundo Boulevard. It was unclear if he was driving or a passenger on the bike.

A second patient was rushed to a hospital by the medics. The extent of injuries sustained by that person remains unknown. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
