Authorities identified 60-year-old Saul Rodriguez, of Abilene, as the man who died from injuries he sustained in a crash that happened on Nov. 24.
As per the initial information, the fatal motorcycle accident took place at the intersection of Grape and West Stamford streets. The investigation reports showed that a motorcycle crashed into a vehicle and the motorcycle rider had severe injuries.
The reports further revealed that the motorcycle ridden by 60-year-old Saul Rodriguez, of Abilene, and a Honda Civic driven by 19-year-old Alejandro Valerio, of Abilene, had crashed. The reports also stated that Rodriguez was heading south on Grape Street while Valerio was going east on West Stamford Street, approaching the stop intersection at Grape Street.
Witnesses informed the APD that Valerio did not yield the right-of-way while leaving the stop sign, resulting in the collision with Rodriguez. Rodriguez received serious injuries and was rushed to Hendrick Medical Center. He was later taken to John Peter Smith in Fort Worth for further treatment. On the other hand, Valerio was treated and released from the scene.
On Dec. 22, 2021, authorities confirmed that Rodriguez had died of the severe injuries he sustained from the collision. Rodriguez was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Authorities believe that alcohol was not involved in the crash. Charges are pending at this time.
An investigation is ongoing.
