A collision between a car and a semi-truck near Sunnyside resulted in two injuries and a driver facing a negligent driving charge, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
The incident occurred on westbound I-82, two miles east of Sunnyside, when the semi-truck slowed down for traffic and was struck from behind by a car.
The 32-year-old driver and an eight-year-old passenger in the car, both from Richland, were injured and taken to Astria Sunnyside Hospital for treatment. WSP attributed the cause of the crash to driving while drowsy, leading to a second-degree negligent driving charge for the driver.
The car was totaled in the collision, while the semi truck’s trailer sustained reportable damage, as reported by WSP.
