A tragic motorcycle accident wreck claimed the life of a 56-year-old Sour Lake man early Sunday morning along Interstate 10 in Beaumont. James Bolt was riding his motorcycle in the 1000 block of Interstate 10 North when the accident occurred just before 2:30 a.m., as stated in a news release from Beaumont Police.
Initial investigations revealed that Bolt was attempting to close a saddlebag that had come open while riding eastbound on Interstate 10, resulting in him losing control of the motorcycle.
Subsequently, Bolt collided with the concrete median wall and was ejected into the westbound lanes, where he was struck by an unidentified 18-wheeler. Despite efforts by Beaumont EMS medics, Bolt was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident prompted the closure of all interstate lanes for several hours, but they were reopened by approximately 6 a.m. Police continue to investigate the fatal crash.
