A tragic head-on collision on Highway 2 near Snohomish resulted in one fatality and serious injuries to another individual on Wednesday evening. The fatal crash occurred at Three Lakes Road shortly before 6:30 p.m., prompting a swift response from emergency services.
Upon arrival, a Snohomish County deputy found both drivers trapped in their vehicles. Despite efforts by crews from Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue and Snohomish County Fire District #4, one driver, a 55-year-old woman, succumbed to her injuries, while the other, a 23-year-old man, was freed using the jaws of life within 12 minutes and transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
All lanes of U.S. 2 were closed for nearly five hours as authorities investigated the cause of the multi-vehicle accident, led by the Washington State Patrol.
