A tragic wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 early Sunday morning has resulted in the death of a 52-year-old woman, as confirmed by the Washington State Patrol (WSP). The multi-vehicle accident occurred around 3:38 a.m. near Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
A 40-year-old Arlington man, driving a 2001 Acura southbound in the northbound lanes, collided with a 2011 Nissan carrying two individuals from Puyallup. The 48-year-old Puyallup man, the driver of the Nissan, and the 52-year-old woman, a passenger, sustained injuries and were transported to hospitals.
Tragically, the woman succumbed to her injuries after arriving at Madigan Army Medical Center, while the man’s condition remains unknown at St. Joseph Medical Center. The wrong-way driver from Arlington faces DUI and vehicular homicide charges. Both vehicles were totaled, and a section of I-5 was closed for over three hours as authorities processed the fatal crash scene.
