In the West Valley, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tragic hit-and-run accident that occurred shortly before midnight on New Year’s Eve. Deputies responded to the area of 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road at about 11:40 p.m. following reports of a traffic collision.
At the scene, they discovered a pedestrian who was critically injured and was rushed to the hospital, but sadly succumbed to his injuries. The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Gabriel Cruz.
The fatal crash is being treated as a hit-and-run, with authorities searching for a dark-coloured Dodge Challenger associated with the suspect. No arrests have been reported at this time.
