Authorities identified 43-year-old Hamza Mohamed, from Monroe, as the man who lost his life following a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday night in Ash Township.
As per the initial information, the fatal motorcycle crash was reported at 9:55 p.m. on Telegraph Road. The early reports showed that Hamza Mohamed was riding on a 2012 Kawasaki EX650 motorcycle northbound on Telegraph in the left travel lane, north of I-275.
At the same time, 58-year-old Michael L Russell, of Flint, was driving a 2017 Freightliner tractor trailer combination, which entered onto Telegraph from the northbound I-275 exit ramp. Reports further showed that Russell was making a southbound turn onto Telegraph when Mohamed tried to avoid the tractor trailer by slamming on his brakes.
The motorcyclist failed to avoid hitting the rear left side of the trailer. Mohamed suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. He was wearing a safety helmet at that time. Russell was wearing his safety belt and remained unharmed in the accident. Officials believe that speed did not play a factor in the crash. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
