The Washington State Patrol reported a hit-and-run crash in Tacoma on Saturday morning. The accident occurred on Interstate 5 at milepost 132, north of the Tacoma Mall area.
According to the officials, two vehicles were involved in the collision. A 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was headed down the road when it hit the back of another vehicle, destroying both vehicles. The wreck came to a rest in lanes two, three, and four.
The driver of the second vehicle was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. He has since been identified as 39-year-old Lance E. Melder. The driver of the Chevrolet fled the scene before the officials could arrive.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated at this time. There are no other details available.
