Authorities confirmed Wednesday that 36-year-old Pernelle Watkins died of injuries he suffered following a two-vehicle accident on Oct 16 in Las Vegas.
The fatal motorcycle crash took place at Cheyenne Avenue and Lamb Boulevard. According to the investigation reports, Pernelle Watkins was eastbound on Cheyenne with a male passenger on his 2015 Harley-Davidson Road Glide motorcycle when he crashed into a 2017 Dodge Durango that was southbound on Lamb.
The driver of the Dodge, 29-year-old Javier Hernandez, was charged with DUI, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. He remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center on $100,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 10, 2022. According to the officials, Watkins was transported to UMC Trauma with injuries including multiple brain bleeds, a “displaced stomach” and a broken leg.
His passenger, 40-year-old Chimere Mazique, was treated for cuts to her head and pain in her lower back and lower extremities. Officers located the Dodge driving away from the crash scene and followed Hernandez until pulling him over. Hernandez dropped off a passenger after the collision, and the passenger went back to the crash scene and cooperated with the authorities. No other details are available.
An investigation continues.
