34-year-old Joel Raynor dead after a motorcycle crash on I-5 near Federal Way (Federal Way, WA)

Authorities identified 34-year-old Joel Raynor, from Silverdale, as the man who lost his life following a traffic collision Sunday night on I-5 in Federal Way.

The fatal motorcycle crash took place at around 6:55 p.m. on I-5 near South 272nd Street in Federal Way. The preliminary investigation showed that a motorcyclist was heading southbound at a high rate of speed on the right shoulder when he crashed into a disabled vehicle parked on the shoulder.

The impact threw the rider off the motorcycle. He was then hit by two other vehicles on the freeway and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Reports further added that officers tried to stop a motorcyclist who was riding recklessly. The trooper deactivated, but the motorcyclist continued to drive recklessly.

Speed and driving on the shoulder contributed as factors in the accident. It is unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved. The motorcyclist was reportedly wearing a helmet at that time. The incident did not lead to any other injuries. Southbound I-5 was shut down for five and a half hours as crews worked at the scene. No other details are made available.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
