Authorities identified 27-year-old John Blake Baldwin, from Sulphur, as the man who died of his injuries on May 16 following a single-vehicle crash on May 6 in Calcasieu Parish.

Just after 8:30 p.m., authorities started investigating the fatal motorcycle accident that happened at the intersection of Enterprise Blvd. and Broad Street. The investigation reports showed that a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle was heading south on LA 27 near US Hwy 90 at a high rate of speed. The motorcyclist was reportedly going at the speed of 77 mph in the area where the posted speed limit is 55 mph.

Troopers tried to stop the motorcycle, but the motorcycle rider, later identified as Baldwin, increased his speed in excess of 100 mph. Baldwin committed multiple traffic violations as he continued traveling on I-10, state highways, and city streets. While traveling through the intersection of Enterprise Blvd. and Broad Street, Baldwin’s motorcycle hit a raised concrete curb due to which he was thrown from the motorcycle.

Baldwin, who was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the accident, received major injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital. On May 16, 2022, Troop D was informed that Baldwin had died of his injuries. Excessive speed contributed to the crash, but it is unknown if impairment was involved. No other details are available.

An investigation is continuing.
