29-year-old Marc David Distel is facing charges after a fatal hit-and-run accident in north Phoenix. Distel, allegedly speeding in a 2013 Lincoln MKZ on Interstate 17, collided with 18-year-old Eleazar Valdez, Jr.’s motorcycle near Union Hills Drive.
The fatal crash wedged the motorcycle in the car’s front. Continuing for a quarter-mile, Valdez fell off and was struck by another vehicle. He was critically injured and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Distel fled but later called DPS, admitting to driving under medication. Charged with manslaughter and fleeing the scene, Distel, with a prior criminal record, was arrested at a hotel. The car’s computer revealed he was going 90 mph, 25 mph over the limit, with no attempt to stop.
