A tragic wrong-way head-on crash in Apache Junction claimed the life of a mother and left her daughter injured, according to the Arizona DPS. The multi-vehicle accident occurred on Saturday night around 9:50 p.m.
Multiple reports at 9:36 p.m. detailed a driver in a blue truck recklessly navigating US 60 near Silly Mountain Road. The driver proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, first eastbound in the westbound lanes and then westbound in the eastbound lanes.
The ensuing head-on fatal crash at milepost 199 on US-60 involved the wrong-way vehicle and a small SUV. The mother and daughter, occupants of the SUV, were seriously injured, with the mother later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver of the truck sustained serious injuries, and impairment is under investigation as a potential factor. The identity of the victims has not been released as the investigation continues.
