In the early hours of Thursday morning, a motorcyclist lost their life in a fatal crash at Maricopa after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop. At 3 a.m., a Maricopa police officer attempted to pull over the rider along John Wayne Parkway.
Initially stopping near John Wayne Parkway and Honeycutt Road, the motorcyclist accelerated away, crashing less than a mile later on Alterra Parkway. The driver succumbed to fatal injuries in the motorcycle accident.
The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office is aiding the Maricopa Police Department in the ongoing investigation. The identity of the motorcyclist remains undisclosed.
As detectives continue their work, two southbound lanes of John Wayne Parkway at Alterra Parkway and east and westbound lanes of Alterra Parkway have been closed throughout the night.
