A tragic crash on northbound Interstate 5 in Lakewood claimed the life of one person on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. under an overpass near 47th Avenue and involved a semi-truck, according to Washington State Patrol reports.
Additionally, one other individual sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. The severity of the collision prompted the closure of three lanes and the on-ramp from Bridgeport Way.
As a consequence, a significant backup extending approximately 5 miles has been reported in the area, as confirmed by the Washington State Department of Transportation. Authorities are advising drivers to utilize alternative routes and anticipate delays due to the ongoing closure and investigation at the crash site.
