On early Friday morning, a woman was hurt after an SUV slammed into a home on West Side.
As per the initial information, officers actively responded to the 800 block of Kirk Place a little after 3 a.m. after getting reports of a single-vehicle crash. On arrival, responders found the vehicle protruding from the side of the home. The early reports showed that the SUV was heading east on Kirk Place when it lost control, crossed the road, knocked a school zone signal off its base and plowed into the home.
The light was left hanging, only standing because it was caught in an overhead utility line. Officers arrested the driver on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. They also found the woman, believed to be about 20-years-old, with minor injuries. According to the victims’ mother, there were five family members inside the home at the time of the collision.
She added that her daughter and grandchild were sleeping in the living room couch when the SUV suddenly crashed through the wall, knocking items from that room into other parts of the house. It barely missed striking a gas line outside the home. The woman said that her daughter was provided medical aid at a hospital for a minor concussion but is expected to be OK.
Her grandchild also received some minor bruising but did not have to be taken to a hospital. After the accident, another relative followed the SUV driver who was attempting to run away. He held onto the suspect until officers arrived. There was a huge hole in the wall of the home due to the wreck. No other details are made available.
The crash remains under review.
