Woman dies as a car plunges into water near San Leandro Marina (San Leandro, CA)

On late Tuesday night, a woman lost her life after her vehicle fell into the water in the area of the San Leandro Marina, police said.

Officers immediately responded just after 11 p.m. after receiving reports of the crash and that the vehicle was fully submerged in the water. On arrival witnesses informed officers that they heard screams from the vehicle.

Officers and Alameda County firefighters managed to rescue the woman from the vehicle and rushed her to a hospital, where she was declared dead, according to police. Authorities described the victim as a woman in her mid-20s. Authorities will reveal the identity of the deceased after notifying the next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation.
