On early Friday morning, a woman lost her life while a man suffered injuries following a fiery crash on Loop 1604.
As per the initial information, the fatal single-vehicle accident took place on Loop 1604 southbound, near Medina Creek. The early reports showed that a male driver and a female passenger were inside a car when it swerved off the road and ran into a median, shortly before crashing through a barrier. The car then plunged 60 feet down an embankment.
Officers said that the vehicle also went airborne and flipped multiple times and got engulfed in flames. On arrival, emergency responders rescued and rushed the driver to an area hospital with unspecified injuries. Unfortunately, the woman was declared dead at the scene by the officials. It is unknown whether alcohol or speed played a factor in the accident.
Traffic was rerouted to the access road near the Marbach Road exit and the main lanes were shut down to give way to the investigation. The highway was back open approximately six hours later. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. No other details are made available.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
