Two children have lost their lives, and driver listed in critical condition after a street sweeper goes off Loop 101 ramp in Phoenix (Phoenix, AZ)

Two children have lost their lives, and driver listed in critical condition after a company street sweeper went off Loop 101 ramp and fell onto Interstate 10 early Friday morning in Phoenix.

As per the initial information, the fatal crash took place on the southbound Loop 101 ramp. The early reports showed that the sweeper was on the southbound Loop 101 ramp to eastbound I-10 when, for an undetermined reason, it plunged off the bridge and fell onto the main roadway below.

Eyewitnesses reportedly saw the sweeper truck fall from the ramp. The truck was initially occupied by a driver, another adult, and a child. When responders arrived at the scene, they found a woman in her 40s trapped in the truck, and a child was also inside. The woman informed officers that a third person was in the truck before the wreck, but was unaccounted for at the scene.

Minutes later, crews found a child, deceased on the ramp above the crash. The female driver is listed in critical condition. The child that was located in the vehicle reportedly died at the hospital. According to the authorities, speed might have played a part in the crash, but it is unknown if impairment was involved. I-10 westbound traffic was blocked to give way to the investigation. Ramp closures are also in place. No other details are available.

The crash remains under review.
