Unborn child dead, Ashley Acosta in critical condition after Morrow crash; Jeffrey Cordell Faulks arrested (Morrow, GA)

Authorities identified 19-year-old Ashley Acosta who suffered critical injuries and lost her unborn child following a traffic collision on Jan. 30 that also hurt 19-year-old Emanuel Cortes Acoltzi in Morrow.

The fatal two-vehicle crash took place on Jonesboro Road just before 1:55 a.m. According to the investigation reports, 32-year-old Jeffrey Cordell Faulks, of Morrow, was driving under the influence on Jonesboro Road in his 2017 Ford F150 truck. At some point of time, Faulks ignored a red light and crashed into a 2015 Chevrolet Cruise, driven by Emanuel Cortes Acoltzi, from Forest Park, that was crossing Jonesboro Road.

Ashley Acosta, also from Forest Park, was in the passenger seat of the car. Due to the impact, the Chevrolet Cruise swerved off the roadway and slammed into a pole. Faulks’ truck also went off the road and ran through several bushes before stopping in a gas station parking lot. Acosta was seven months pregnant at that time. Her unborn child died as a result of the collision. Acosta was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Faulks and Acoltzi were provided medical aid at the scene for minimal injuries. Officers arrested Faulks at the scene. He is being charged with 1st Degree Vehicular Feticide, Serious Injury by Vehicle, DUI, Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device (Red Light Violation). Faulks is being detained at the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office Jail and additional charges are possible. No other details are made available.

An investigation is ongoing.
