On Monday, deputies report that four children are currently in a Baton Rouge area hospital after a two-vehicle crash that occurred on US 190 in West Baton Rouge Parish.
One of the children who was flown to a hospital is currently in serious condition, according to the sheriff’s office. Another child sustained moderate injuries and two other children were taken to the hospital overnight for evaluation. Authorities confirmed a citation to the children’s mother, Lanitra Fields, for failure to yield and driving under a suspended license.
Investigators reveal that the crash took place at about 2 p.m. when Fields attempted to cross US 190 from Beuche Road and was struck by an oncoming truck. The driver of the truck also received moderate injuries. Authorities shut down US 190 Monday afternoon as crews work to clear the crash scene. It has since opened again to traffic.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
