Truck hits and injures a teenage girl in crosswalk (Whittier, CA)

On Tuesday evening, a teenage girl sustained major injuries after being hit by a turning truck while she was crossing the crosswalk.

Whittier Police and paramedics quickly responded to the intersection just after 5:15 PM on reports of a pedestrian crash. On arrival, authorities found a female down in the roadway after being hit by a red pickup truck.

The pickup truck was taking a left turn from Westbound Penn Street to southbound Pickering Avenue when the driver struck the female juvenile who was crossing the south crosswalk. The impact of the crash sent the girl flying and then ran down by the red pickup truck. The female was semi-conscious and rushed to a trauma center in unknown condition.

Police closed down the area and interrogated the driver, who was assisted police and stayed on scene. The female was described as being high school aged. The identity of the injured pedestrian remains undisclosed at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.
