Speed, impairment contributed to the fatal car crash in Chandler (Chandler, AZ)

Police believe the driver in a fatal single-car accident in Chandler might have been impaired and speeding.

The incident took place just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gilbert and Chandler Heights roads. According to the reports, a vehicle traveling north on Gilbert Road swerved east and rammed into a traffic pole at the northwest corner of the intersection. The fire trucks also responded to the scene.

The driver, a woman in her 20s, received injuries following the crash. Her passenger, a man in his 20s, was declared deceased at the hospital. After colliding with the pole, the car struck a second vehicle. Nobody in that car was injured, police mentioned. According to Sgt. Jason McClimans of the Chandler Police Department, investigators believe speed and impairment contributed to the crash. No arrests have been made as of now.

An investigation is continuing.
