On Saturday, a person lost their life in a fatal motorcycle crash on East Harmon Avenue.
The incident took place at about 6:03 a.m. at the Jimmy Durante Boulevard intersection. According to officials, an eastbound motorcycle on East Harmon Avenue came towards the Jimmy Durante Boulevard intersection at a high speed.
As per reports, the bike rider could not slow the motorcycle and went straight through the intersection following which the motorcycle hit the curb on the east side of the intersection. The bike rider then drove through a chain-link fence and across a drainage canal after which the motorcycle and its rider hit the east embankment of the canal and finally came to a stop.
The impact of the crash also threw the passenger off the bike and into rest in the desert area east of the canal. She sustained major injuries as a result of the accident and was rushed to Sunrise Hospital for treatment. First responders declared the motorcyclist deceased at the scene. Authorities will release the identity of the motorcyclist after notifying the next of kin.
The crash remains under active review.
