Officials identified 92-year-old Walter B Riddle who died after a 3-car wreck in Skagit County (Bay View, WA)

Washington State Patrol (WSP) identified Walter B Riddle, of Bellingham, as the man who died after a 3-car wreck on Saturday afternoon, September 4th, in Skagit County.

As per the initial information, the wreck involving three cars took place at the intersection of Josh Wilson Road and Farm to Market Road. The preliminary reports indicated that the Bellingham man was driving a white 1998 Olds 88 while heading eastbound on Josh Wilson Road when he ran a stop sign and entered the intersection.

At that point of time, his car was hit by a green 2008 Toyota RAV4 going southbound on Farm to Market Road and again by a white 1992 Honda Accord heading northbound. Reports further said that there are stop signs at the intersection for traffic on Josh Wilson Road, but not for Farm to Market Road traffic.

Both roads reportedly have 50mph speed limits. A Deming couple in the Toyota was taken to Skagit Valley Hospital with non-fatal injuries. The driver of the Honda remained unharmed in the accident. All parties were reportedly wearing their seatbelts at the time of the wreck. Drugs or alcohol were believed to have played a role in the crash.

The WSP confirmed that a next-of-kin notification had been made by the Skagit County Medical Examiner’s Office. WSP investigators found out that the cause of the crash was failure to yield at a stop sign. All vehicles were badly damaged and towed from the scene.

An investigation is ongoing at this time.
