Officials identified 82-year-old Paul Andrew Sweetland who died after a crash in West Michigan (Carlton Township, MI)

Authorities identified 82-year-old Paul Andrew Sweetland, from Barry County, as the man who lost his life after his bicycle crashed into a disabled vehicle on March 4 in West Michigan.

The fatal bicycle crash took place at about 3:25 p.m. along M-43 near Mary Lou Drive in Carlton Township. According to the investigation reports, Sweetland, from Hastings, was traveling north on M-43 when he rear-ended a disabled vehicle.

On arrival, emergency personnel airlifted Sweetland to Butterworth Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Hastings Fire Department, Barry County Central Dispatch, Mercy EMGS and AeroMed provided assistance at the scene. No further details were provided.

An investigation is continuing.
