Officials identified 82-year-old Betty Golden and 83-year-old Jamie Golden who died in a crash (Hephzibah, GA)

Officials identified 82-year-old Betty Golden and an 83-year-old Jamie Golden as the elderly couple, of Augusta, who lost their lives after their pickup went into the way of a semi on Friday morning between Blythe and Hephzibah.

As per the initial information, the deadly two-vehicle collision occurred at around 7:11 a.m. on Deans Bridge and Bath-Edie roads between Blythe and Hephzibah. The preliminary investigation revealed that a pickup and a tractor-trailer were involved in the crash.

The crash happened when the elderly couple was departing from the AM/PM gas station in their pickup and drove into the way of a northbound tractor-trailer. Both the people in the pickup suffered major injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene at 7:50 a.m. by the authorities. It is unclear if the driver of the tractor-trailer received any injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
