Officials identified 63-year-old Ryoichi Kobayashi who died after a pedestrian crash in Torrance (Torrance, CA)

On Monday, authorities identified 63-year-old Ryoichi Kobayashi as the man who lost his life after being struck by a car Sunday night in Torrance.

As per the initial information, the fatal pedestrian crash was reported at 8:05 p.m. on the eastbound side of Torrance Boulevard, east of Conradi Avenue. The crash was initially reported as a hit-and-run, but that it was not indicated in a subsequent press release.

The preliminary investigation showed that a 36-year-old Torrance woman was heading eastbound on Torrance Boulevard in a 2019 Toyota and had just passed the intersection with Conradi Avenue. She was traveling at at 35 mph in lane 1.

At that point of time, Kobayashi was walking from the north edge of Torrance Boulevard to cross to the south edge when he was hit by the Toyota. He was declared dead at the scene. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
