Authorities identified 62-year-old Bobbie J McCraney and 69-year-old Ethel Simms as the victims who were killed following a two-vehicle crash in Calcasieu Parish on Tuesday morning.

As per the initial information, Troopers from Troop D actively responded to the area of LA Hwy 108 and Choupique Road in Calcasieu Parish just after 9 a.m. on reports of a two-vehicle collision. The accident took the lives of 62-year-old Bobbie J McCraney, 62, a Westlake resident, and Ethel Simms, 69, of Sulphur.

The preliminary investigation showed that McCraney was driving a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser while heading south on Choupique Road and approaching the intersection of LA 108. At that point of time, a 2013 Western Star 18-wheeler was going west on LA 108, and for reasons that are yet to be known, McCraney failed to yield at a posted stop sign and entered the intersection.

After entering the intersection, the Toyota was hit on the left side/driver’s side by the 18-wheeler. Both McCraney and Simms suffered major injuries as a result of the crash and were declared deceased at the scene, although both of them were wearing their seatbelts.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, who was wearing a seatbelt, incurred minor injuries and was taken to a Sulphur area hospital for treatment. Toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and sent for analysis.

An investigation is ongoing.
