Officials identified 49-year-old Manfred G Rivas who died after being hit twice on New Year’s Eve (Tucson, AZ)

Officials identified 49-year-old Manfred G Rivas as the man who lost his life after getting hit by two cars on the New Year’s Eve.

As per the initial information, the fatal hit-and-run accident took place in the 3200 block of N. Stone Avenue just after 6 p.m. On arrival, first responders rushed the pedestrian to Banner University Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Interviews conducted by officers and detectives ascertained that Rivas was attempting to cross Stone Ave. from east to west. The reports also stated that Rivas was not in a crosswalk when he was struck by a white passenger vehicle that was heading northbound in the curb lane.

After hitting Rivas, the white passenger vehicle kept on going northbound and did not stop to render aid to the victim. After some time, a second vehicle hit Rivas as he was lying in the roadway. The second vehicle also left the scene. Detectives are searching for the hit-and-run motorists. No other details are available.

The incident remains under review.
