Authorities identified 41-year-old Manuel De Jesus Gomez-Calderon as the man who lost his life after being struck by a vehicle on Hwy 71.
As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian collision took place on Highway 71, north of Pineville at about 4:30 p.m. The early reports showed that Manuel De Jesus Gomez-Calderon was trying to cross the road when he got hit by a 2016 GMC Sierra.
On arrival, emergency personnel rushed Gomez-Calderon to a local hospital where he was later declared dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. No additional information has been provided by the authorities.
The incident remains under investigation.
