Officials identified 41-year-old Jamal Thompson who died after a bicycle crash in the Oakland Hills (Oakland, CA)

The Alameda County Coroner’s Office identified 41-year-old Jamal Thompson, of Oakland, as the man who lost his life following a single-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon in the Oakland hills.

As per the initial information, the fatal bicycle crash took place in the 5900 block of Shepherd Canyon Road. Authorities actively responded to the scene and, on arrival, found Thompson at around 1:56 p.m. Sunday. He was declared dead at the scene.

The preliminary reports showed that the driver somehow lost control of his Bianchi bicycle while riding by himself southbound on Shepherd Canyon. He was thrown onto the road after crashing his bicycle. It is not yet known if speed or some kind of medical issue contributed to the accident. Police stated that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
