Officials identified 38-year-old Jodie K Laughlin who died after a crash on U.S. 171 (Calcasieu Parish, LA)

Authorities identified 38-year-old Jodie K Laughlin as the woman who lost her life following an auto-pedestrian crash on October 15.

As per the initial information, officers actively responded to the area of U.S. Highway 171, just north of Lake Charles a little before 6:00 a.m. after getting reports of a crash. The incident took the life of 38-year-old Jodie K Laughlin of Universal City, Texas.

According to the reports, Laughlin was walking in the northbound lanes of travel on U.S. 171 when a northbound SUV hit her. She suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. The driver of the SUV remained uninjured as they were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

Impairment on the part of Laughlin is not confirmed at this time, but a standard toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. The driver of the SUV submitted a breath sample and did not display any signs of impairment at that time.

An investigation is continuing.
