Officials identified 36-year-old Pedro Roland Lozano who died in a hit-and-run accident (Tucson, AZ)

Officials identified 36-year-old Pedro Roland Lozano as the man who died at a hospital for injuries he suffered in a crash on Jan. 14 while authorities are looking for the driver and a passenger who fled the scene.

As per the initial information, the authorities actively responded to the intersection of South Swan Road and East 16th Street after getting reports of a hit-and-run accident just before 10:30 a.m. The driver of a white 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was rushed to Banner University Medical Center with major injuries.

Police were informed that the driver and passenger of the other vehicle involved had ran away from the scene on foot and left their white 2003 BMW sedan. The preliminary reports showed that both vehicles were speeding southbound on Swan Road when the BMW hit the front driver’s side of the pickup truck while trying to overtake it in the curb lane.

The impact of the crash caused the Silverado to lose control and drove onto the center median where it collided with a palm tree. The Silverado ricocheted back into the road after hitting the palm tree and the driver was thrown from the truck.

The BMW kept on going southbound before coming to a stop. It was then the people in the car left the scene on foot. Traffic detectives said the driver of the Silverado was not buckled up at the time of the collision and they believe impairment was involved in the incident.

The pickup truck driver remained at the hospital and received treatment, but succumbed to his injuries on Jan. 29. Police identified the driver as Pedro Roland Lozano, 36, and his family has been notified of his death. Detectives are still searching for the driver and passenger of the BMW. No other information is available.

The incident remains under active review.
