Officials identified 29-year-old Davis Avent who lost his life following a car crash along Interstate 24 in Antioch on Tuesday morning.

As per the initial information, the accident took place at about 6:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes, close to the Haywood Lane exit. Metro police confirmed that 29-year-old Davis Avent, of Nashville, was killed in the crash. The preliminary reports showed that Avent was heading east on I-24 in a 2013 Nissan Altima when he lost control of his car and hit a concrete retaining wall.

After colliding with the wall, his vehicle re-entered the eastbound lanes and was hit by a 2017 Chevrolet pickup truck. The reports further said that there is no evidence that alcohol or drugs contributed to the wreck. As of now, driving too fast for the road conditions may have been the main contributing factor in the accident.

The roadway fully reopened at about 9:15 a.m. Vehicles were stopped at the crash scene for hours before they were allowed to turn around and travel west in the eastbound lanes to the previous exit. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing at this time.
