Officials identified 21-year-old Marialexis Juana Calderon as the driver who was killed following a high-speed crash Friday morning in East El Paso.

As per the initial information, the fatal car accident took place on I-10 East near the Lee Trevino. According to the witnesses, they lost sight of the Sentra momentarily and shortly after observed the Sentra had slammed into a guardrail located on the right side of the I-10.

The investigation reports showed the 21-year-old Marialexis Juana Calderon was driving eastbound in a 2016 Nissan Sentra when her vehicle smashed into the guardrail. The reports also revealed that the guardrail broke due to the impact and entered the vehicle, causing major damage and killing Calderon.

Eyewitnesses informed police they saw the car traveling at “a high rate of speed and veering across all lanes.” Speed played a part in the collision, officers mentioned. No other information is available.

An investigation is ongoing.
