On Thursday, authorities confirmed that 21-year-old Braulio Pioquinto, of Poway, succumbed to his injuries two days after the crash in North County.
As per the initial information, the fatal car accident took place at around 3 p.m. Tuesday on El Camino Real north of Cristianitos Road, which is a slice of unincorporated San Diego County land near the border with Orange County.
The investigation reports revealed that the driver, an 18-year-old Yucca Valley woman was traveling south in a silver Dodge Journey when the vehicle swerved to the right for unknown reasons and slammed into two parked cars.
On arrival, first responders rushed the passenger, Braulio Pioquinto, to a hospital in Orange County. Pioquinto died from his injuries on Thursday. After the collision, the driver received treatment at a hospital for minor injuries, then released and taken in custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
She posted bail and was released from jail before the passenger died. It was not immediately clear whether she would face arrest or charges resulting from her passenger’s death.
An investigation is ongoing.
