Officials identified 19-year-old Javarius Barfield and 8-year-old Chase Fernandez who died in a crash (Las Vegas, NV)

The Clark County Coroner’s office identified 19-year-old Javarius Barfield and 8-year-old Chase Fernandez as the victims who lost their lives in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 15 earlier this week.

Javarius Barfield, 19, and Chase Fernandez, 8, of Lawrenceville, GA both died of multiple blunt force trauma they sustained in the crash, according to the coroner’s office. Their manners of death were termed as accidents. Nevada Highway Patrol said in a statement that the fatal incident took place on Monday night at northbound I-15 by mile marker 78, approximately 25 miles northeast of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

A wrong-way vehicle was involved in the collision. Authorities believe that impairment might have played a factor in the crash. No details have been provided regarding the events leading up to the accident.

An investigation is continuing.
