Officials identified 10-year-old Derek Wright who died after being hit by a vehicle in San Antonio (San Antonio, TX)

Authorities identified 10-year-old Derek Wright as the boy who lost his life after getting struck by a car Monday night in San Antonio.

The fatal auto-pedestrian accident occurred at around 10:15 p.m. on Huebner Road and Research Drive. The preliminary reports showed that a Nissan Altima was going at a high rate of speed, and its driver could not see the child crossing the street and hit him.

Wright died of his injuries at the scene. The driver remained at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment. The area was blocked during the investigation. No further details are available.

An investigation is continuing.
