The Oceanside Police Department reported a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday.
The accident occurred near Vista Way and South Moreno Street at around 1:40 a.m.
According to the officials, a police cruiser was hit by a white sedan. The force of the impact caused the police vehicle to be pushed back more than 40 feet. It also damaged the sedan to the point that the driver had to be extracted from the vehicle.
Both the officer present in the cruiser and the driver of the sedan were injured in the crash. The officer managed to pull out the driver before the sedan could explode.
Both victims incurred injuries that were non-life-threatening.
The identities of both have not been disclosed.
The driver of the sedan was charged with driving under the influence. They will be booked once they have received treatment.
There are no other details available at the moment.
