Mustang caught fire after crashing on west-side highway (San Antonio, TX)

A Mustang ignited following an accident on west-side highway, the San Antonio Police Department said.

The incident took place at around 12:40 a.m. Saturday in the 4300 block of SW Loop 410 East Bound.

Police said that the vehicle burst into flames when a Mustang and a Challenger were traveling on the highway. Witnesses told SAPD that the two drivers were driving recklessly, violently, and speedily.

Allegedly, the Challenger attempted to pass the Mustang, but then STRUCK the vehicle from behind, propelling the Mustang across the median and into the opposite lanes. Moments after, the Mustang crashed and caught fire.

Subsequently, both drivers manage to come out their vehicles safely. The SAFD put out the flames. However, they said that the fire was a “bit stubborn” due to the ruptured fuel tank pouring out gasoline into the fire.

As of now, police have not framed any charges or issued any citations.
