On Tuesday, officials confirmed that a woman lost her life and her 7-year-old son suffered injuries after they got hit by vehicles last week on Washington Avenue.
The fatal auto-pedestrian accident took place a little after 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 12. According to the investigation reports, two vehicles crashed into each other at Rose Street and Washington Avenue. One of the vehicles went out of control and struck the victims in a crosswalk.
A red Nissan Titan heading east on Washington Avenue ran a red traffic signal and crashed into a blue Ford Fusion that was traveling north on Rose Street. The mother and her 7-year-old son were hit during the crash as they were crossing Washington Street.
On arrival, emergency crews transported the victims to Palomar Medical Center, where the adult was later declared dead. The child was believed to have received non-critical trauma. The identities of the drivers have not been released. However, the Fusion driver is described as a 51-year-old Escondido woman while the driver of the Titan is described as an 82-year-old man from Valley Center.
An investigation continues.
