A truck driver died after a massive wreck threw him off his cab on the Far East Side.
The incident took place just before 9 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 10 and Farm-to-Market 1516 near Green Road.
Police said that the 18-wheeler was driving at a rapid speed for the road conditions. Then, he noticed a wrecked car on the bridge and attempted to reduce the speed to avoid the vehicle. Meantime, the driver jackknifed, hit the wall, and removed from the truck.
Afterwards, a FedEx truck tried to slow down to avoid smashing into the 18-wheeler and rolled on one of its trailers.
Medics rushed the driver of the 18-wheeler to the hospital. However, he succumbed from his injuries later.
Authorities shut down the highway for crews to conduct an inquiry and sweep off the debris.
