On Wednesday, a man suffered injuries after his vehicle careened off a freeway and fell down an embankment near the Sweetwater River.
As per the initial information, officers actively responded to the area of State Route 54, west of Interstate 805 in Chula Vista just after 4 a.m. after getting reports of a single-vehicle crash. The preliminary investigation showed that a vehicle drifted off the freeway and went down the embankment on eastbound State Route 54.
On arrival, responders used 150 feet of cable to reach the driver and the vehicle. The man was then transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista with unspecified injuries. Officials believe that the man might have been driving under the influence prior to the accident. No other details are immediately available.
An investigation is ongoing.
