A suspected drunk driver lost his life following a single-vehicle accident early Sunday on Highway 90.
As per the initial information, the fatal rollover crash took place at about 3:30 a.m. in the 5000 block of US Highway 90 westbound. The early reports showed that the man was heading westbound on the highway in a beige pickup truck when his vehicle veered onto the south shoulder and hit a guardrail. The man overcorrected and crossed three westbound traffic lanes where it struck another guardrail on the north shoulder of the freeway.
The force of the collision sent the vehicle up and over the guardrail before it vaulted and flipped multiple times before coming to a stop in a grassy area just south of the access road. The man was not buckled up at the time of the collision and he was thrown from the vehicle.
The man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was later shifted to the Medical Examiner’s office through an ambulance. Authorities stated the cause of the crash is likely intoxication, but it is pending toxicology results. No other details are available.
The accident remains under investigation.
